Going back to school as a working professional can be a tough call as you consider the added demands on your time and out-of-pocket expense; however, for Deborah Jackson, the decision to earn her RN to BSN online from Notre Dame College was easy considering her future career goals.

“Growing up in a family surrounded by caring and passionate nurses, it made me love the idea of becoming a nurse,” said Deborah. “I love working as a psychiatric nurse, and earning my BSN at Notre Dame College will open the door for me to take my career to the next level. My goal for the near future is to become a mental health nurse practitioner, which requires that I earn a BSN and complete a master’s degree to gain the expanded scope and training I would need to practice.”

When considering the many available options for pursing your degree, what most influenced your decision to attend Notre Dame College?

The first feature that influenced my decision to attend Notre Dame College was the option of taking all my classes online since I work full time as a nurse and am a mother to six children. Another benefit was the cost of attendance. The RN to BSN program tuition was within the price that I felt comfortable paying. The most important feature that made me choose Notre Dame College was the nursing and clinical staff. I was provided assistance and support at every step beginning with the application process. And, with the assistance of my advisor, I continuously get the support and encouragement continuously as I go through the program.

What benefit, if any, have you experienced as a result of choosing to enroll at Notre Dame College?

The benefits are countless. I have instructors that do not consider me to be just another number. They are dedicated, supportive and encouraging.

What do you think creates a quality academic experience?

To me, a quality experience is provided by the knowledge gained that I am able to put into practice at my current place of employment. The courses offered allow students to build on what they have learned, providing them with a meaningful difference at work and in their respective communities.

How did you maintain a balance between work, school, family and other demands on your time? Describe how Notre Dame College supported your efforts.

I learned to prioritize my time. With the course Moodle (an e-learning platform) at NDC, the course requirements are outlined for the students, giving us the opportunity to know what assignments need to be completed and when they are due. It also provided me with the opportunity to contact my instructor if any issues arose during the course. I had access to my course 24/7, which allowed me the opportunity to log in to my classes at home, work or at any location to complete my assignments. And, the instructors are only a phone call or email away.
